Q • An inmate is transferred to Milford State Prison in Mid March, 2019. He is 19 years old, small in stature, and serving time for sexual assault against a child. During his intake processing other inmates were observed to be verbally harassing him. He is serving a long sentence, and has requested to be placed in a general population block. As the Warden what will you expect of your Classification staff. They interview and review all materials that arrive with every new inmate sent from the Central Intake Facility of the state correctional system. While newly arriving prisoners from Court (all sentenced) are carefully reviewed you want the process repeated once they appear at your facility regardless of what good work may have been done in Central Intake. • Do you place him in General Population? The inmate seems to want general population to give him the greatest opportunity for full program involvement during his 10 year sentence. He noted at intake that he did not want Protective Custody or special security status. he noted he could handle himself in General Population. He strongly evidenced a desire to completed his GED, join a class in computer science and start from scratch to build a basis for successful reentry. he noted he did not have a problem with children and this was his first and only such situation of this nature. He denied any past involvement nor a need for therapy or psychiatric assistance. He stands 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, and states he has an Honorable Discharge from the US Navy with previous deployment in the Persian Gulf on a missile cruiser. • Your two Classification Case Managers write to you through the proper chain of command.
